I went to Cologne on the second day of DMEXCO, a digital marketing expo and conference. It’s good to see in-person events gradually returning. It was very crowded, but some halls that had been used in previous years remained closed. I had my walking shoes on — I planned to hit all three open halls and visit many different products and companies.

Olivier Dobberkau visited DMEXCO, 21 September 2022, as part of the Meet TYPO3 initiative. Olivier is president of the TYPO3 Association Board. See upcoming Meet TYPO3 events.

As I walked through the exhibition halls, I met Ronald Meeuwissen, a former TYPO3 community member from the Netherlands. He quit his job at Maxserv and is now working for tweakwise, a company offering a product that optimizes ecommerce solutions. I’m planning a followup with him soon.

Some products at DMEXCO were especially interesting from a TYPO3 perspective: Shopware, Akeneo, Siteimprove, Magnolia, and Storyblok. I spoke to all of them and will look into technology partnerships where this is feasible. Please reach out to me if you want to hear more about any of these cool products.

Later in the afternoon I hung out with Volker Graubaum, who has found a new job at U+I after a stint at the TYPO3 Company. We had a personal check-in and a long conversation about TYPO3. Afterwards, I went to see a presentation of Storyblok, to see what is happening in the area of headless content.

I think we should ask ourselves if TYPO3 should be present with a stand at fairs like DMEXCO too. It would be a great opportunity to showcase our product, and rub shoulders with friends in the industry.
